  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Sitting down Saturday

    Rotowire

Donovan isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Saturday's game versus Seattle, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

An 0-for-4 performance Friday snapped Donovan's seven-game hitting streak, during which he went 10-for-28 with a home run, four RBI and six runs scored. His absence Saturday will put Jose Fermin at the keystone while batting eighth.

  • Cardinals' Ivan Herrera: Resting Saturday

    Rotowire

Herrera isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Herrera has gone 5-for-15 with three RBI across his last five games, but he'll sit down for a second consecutive contest Saturday while Pedro Pages catches for Kyle Gibson and bats seventh.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Back in action Saturday

    Rotowire

Arenado (shoulder) is playing third base and batting cleanup Saturday against the Mariners.

Arenado left Friday's game against Seattle in the ninth inning due to shoulder soreness. The third baseman had difficulties swinging a bat leading up to his removal, but he's feeling well enough to start Saturday. Arenado is 9-for-38 (.231) with eight runs and four RBI in his last nine games.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Optioned to Memphis

    Rotowire

The Cardinals optioned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.

Leahy has turned in a 4.30 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 14.2 innings since being recalled from the minors in late-July, though he'll now be sent back to Triple-A after giving up three runs over 1.1 frames during Friday's loss. Chris Roycroft was recalled from Memphis in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Chris Roycroft: Back in big leagues

    Rotowire

The Cardinals recalled Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.

Since being optioned to Triple-A at the end of July, Roycroft has turned in a 2.60 ERA and 1.50 WHIP alongside a 19:6 K:BB through 17.1 innings. He'll now rejoin the Cardinals' bullpen to provide the big squad with a fresh arm, replacing Kyle Leahy.

  • Cardinals' Michael Siani: Picks up steal Friday

    Rotowire

Siani went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Mariners.

Siani has gone 3-for-14 with two steals and two RBI over four games since he returned from an oblique injury. The center fielder was the only Cardinal with multiple hits in Friday's contest. He's up to a .254/.295/.319 slash line with 16 thefts, two home runs, 20 RBI, 37 runs scored, six doubles and two triples through 105 contests this year.

  • Cardinals' Jordan Walker: Belts second homer

    Rotowire

Walker went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Mariners.

The 22-year-old accounted for the Cardinals' only offense when he took Troy Taylor deep in the seventh inning. Walker has two big-league homers this year, and both have come since he was called back up in late August. His 0:9 BB:K in six games since his promotion highlights how much work he needs to do to become a consistent fantasy asset, however.

  • Cardinals' Erick Fedde: Stuck with tough loss Friday

    Rotowire

Fedde (8-9) took the loss Friday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings as the Cardinals fell 6-1 to the Mariners. He struck out one.

The right-hander was locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel with Bryce Miller through four innings, but Fedde blinked first and loaded the bases in the fifth on a hit-by-pitch, a single and a walk before Randy Arozarena brought home the game's first run with a sacrifice fly. Matthew Liberatore relieved Fedde and prevented any further damage, but the Cards were never able to tie things back up. Over seven starts with St. Louis, Fedde has a 4.30 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 30:15 K:BB through 37.2 innings, a far cry from his numbers with the White Sox before being traded. He'll look to find his early-season form in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Toronto.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Dealing with shoulder soreness

    Rotowire

Arenado exited Friday's game against Seattle due to shoulder soreness, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Arenado exited in favor of a pinch hitter in the ninth inning after he had difficulty swinging a bat. It's unclear if the injury will cause him to miss additional time, but Jose Fermin would likely pick up playing time at the hot corner in that scenario.

  • Cardinals' Steven Matz: Shifting to bullpen

    Rotowire

Matz will be available out of the bullpen going forward beginning with Sunday's game against the Mariners, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The left-hander returned from the 60-day injured list as a starter Tuesday in Milwaukee and allowed three runs over 4.2 innings, but he'll be shifted to the bullpen with Lance Lynn (knee) on the cusp of rejoining St. Louis' rotation. Matz has a 6.12 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB across 32.1 innings this season and is now likely to operate as a long reliever.

  • Cardinals' Lance Lynn: Set to rejoin rotation Wednesday

    Rotowire

Lynn (knee) is scheduled to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Reds, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The 37-year-old threw 80 pitches while giving up five runs over 3.2 innings during a rehab start with Triple-A Memphis on Sept. 1, and his next game action will come with the big-league club. Lynn landed on the shelf at the end of July due to knee inflammation, but he'll be back with the Cardinals for a few starts down the stretch.

  • Cardinals' Chase Davis: Moving to Double-A

    Rotowire

Davis was promoted from High-A Peoria to Double-A Springfield on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The 22-year-old was promoted to Peoria from Single-A Palm Beach at the end of July, and he'll move up another level five weeks later. Davis posted a .296/.372/.443 slash line with three homers in 30 games at High-A and should have a chance to get to Triple-A in 2025 if he continues to hit.

  • Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Records another steal

    Rotowire

Nootbaar went 1-for-2 with two walks, one RBI and one stolen base in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Brewers.

Nootbaar has swiped a bag in consecutive contests, and he's up to seven steals on eight attempts this year. His bat has also come around lately -- the outfielder is on a nine-game hitting streak, going 12-for-33 (.364) in that span. Nootbaar is up to a .247/.334/.401 slash line nine home runs, 35 RBI and 30 runs scored across 333 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Kittredge: Nabs extra-inning win

    Rotowire

Kittredge (3-4) walked one and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings to earn the extra-inning win over the Brewers on Wednesday.

Kittredge worked out of the trouble JoJo Romero created in the eighth inning and then delivered a perfect ninth to keep the game tied at 2-2. The Cardinals pulled ahead in the 10th with a two-out RBI single from Luken Baker. Kittredge is now on an eight-inning scoreless streak, allowing three hits and posting a 6:1 K:BB while earning two wins and two holds in that span. For the season, he has a 3.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 55:17 K:BB through 59.1 innings with one save, six blown saves and 32 holds.

  • Cardinals' Ryan Fernandez: Grabs second save

    Rotowire

Fernandez earned a save against the Brewers on Wednesday, issuing one walk and striking out three batters over one scoreless inning.

Fernandez came on in the bottom of the 10th inning after the Cardinals pushed across the automatic runner in the top of the frame. The right-hander got the opportunity to close because Ryan Helsley, who leads the majors in saves, tossed two innings and threw 27 pitches Tuesday. Fernandez is not a threat to Helsley's closer role despite his outstanding outing Wednesday.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Excellent in no-decision

    Rotowire

Gray allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Gray didn't allow a run until the seventh inning, and he departed the contest holding a 2-1 lead. However, St. Louis' bullpen coughed up the tying run in the eighth, preventing Gray from notching a second straight victory. Despite that disappointment, it was a strong outing by the veteran right-hander, as he completed seven frames for the first time since Aug. 6. Gray has surrendered just two runs over his past 13 innings spanning two starts to bring his season ERA down to 3.84.
