One of the biggest bands in the world, The Beatles, are finally getting the silver screen treatment. We’ve seen hits like Bohemian Rhapsody and Back To Black captivate audiences, and while it only seems apt the ‘60s rock group should receive the same treatment, it’s the rumoured casting that’s got everyone talking.
Whispers have been circling that four of Hollywood’s it-boys are being pursued for the lead roles—one of which may have just been confirmed by their real-life Beatles counterpart.
If rumours are to be believed, we may see a Gladiator II effect and have films (yes, plural) made for the female gaze. It would only be fitting given the craze the band themselves caused, right?
Here’s everything you need to know about The Beatles movies.
The Beatles Movie Will Be Split Into Four Separate Films
Telling the story of the “greatest rock band of all time” can’t be rushed it seems. Director Sam Mendes has revealed plans to split the story into four separate films, each focusing on a different member of the Beatles and their point of view.
Per a press release on the film, each movie will intersect and “tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history” before their heartbreaking split in 1970.
“I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes said of splitting the film in four.
Teasing the sheer scale of this project, Sony Pictures’ CEO Tom Rothman says: “Theatrical movie events today must be culturally seismic. Sam’s daring, large-scale idea is that and then some. Pairing his premiere filmmaking team, with the music and the stories of four young men who changed the world, will rock audiences all over the globe.”
Who Is Cast In The Beatles Movies?
While we’re yet to receive solid confirmation, the casting for The Beatles film has been the topic of speculation for months. These are the rumoured cast, including one seemingly (or accidentally?) confirmed pick…

Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr
For the chronically online, news of Barry Keoghan joining the cast of The Beatles film as drummer Ringo Starr may not come as a surprise. However, rumours have seemingly been confirmed by Starr himself.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Starr was asked what he thought of Keoghan portraying him in the upcoming biopics.
“I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”
Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
There are no signs of slowing down for our new Gladiator, Paul Mescal. The 28-year-old, who shot to fame on Sally Rooney adaptation, Normal People, has become one of the most sought-after heartthrobs in Hollywood.
While not yet confirmed, it is believed Paul has been tapped to play Paul McCartney.
Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
The internet’s latest boyfriend is undoubtedly Harris Dickinson. The hype around his upcoming film, Babygirl, where he plays an intern caught up in a heated affair with his boss, played by Nicole Kidman, has been overwhelming.
It is said Dickinson is being pursued to portray John Lennon.

Jospeh Quinn as George Harrison
It was initially speculated the role of George Harrison would be portrayed by Charlie Rowe of The Boat That Rocked fame. However, recent reports suggest fellow Gladiator II alum, Joseph Quinn, is the front runner for the role.
Quinn has bounced from hit to hit including a role in Stranger Things and upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four.
When Will The Beatles Movies Be Released?
With a cast yet to be confirmed and production date even further off, exactly when we can expect to see The Beatles film is unclear.
Will all four films drop at once in a choose-your-own-adventure scenario for film goers or will they be split over four year à la Wicked Part’s One and Two? We’ll have to wait and see…
