About two months ago I bought the Xbox 360 Minecraft, and immediately loved it. I loved it so much that a couple months later (yesterday) I bought the PC version. Needless to say, there's loads more to do, and I enjoy it much more. In a world that is apparently infinitely big.

However, I have one gripe. Is it just me, or does someone else prefer the 360 Map size? I can't stop getting lost in the PC version! First major project I did was a giant tower just so I can find my way out.

Not sure if this'll stop me, but I definitely miss learning the layout of the map. With this, I'm kind of afraid to go too far away from anything I know just to keep from getting lost.

Someone tell me I'm not alone in this :-P I think if the 360 version had just a map maybe double the size, I think it'd be perfect.

I do not prefer the Xbox 360 map size but I do not complain. Complain accomplishes nothing. If I want the PC map size, I'll fire up Minecraft on my PC and play for a bit.

4J has said they are looking into ways of expanding the map, but even if it happens, don't expect to see it for a while. It would require large amounts of optimizations and right now, they're focused on doing the updates and fixing bugs.

I don't mind the Xbox 360 size that much. It's big enough for me, I usually only play with 1-2 other people at a time. But it would nice to have more and larger biomes as well as expanded dungeons.

However, they should work on increasing the map size if it is feasible.

If you get lost on the PC version make sure that one of your first priorities is making a map and/or a compass.

Complaining doesn't accomplish anything? In consumer products, complaining helps a lot. Just talk to anyone who has ever worked any type of service job. Complaints can help improve your business and job performance.

Especially in video games, complaining can lead to good changes. Complaints on forums often lead to Xbox Live Updates that address these complaints (Modern Warfare 3 - spawn fixes, new map styles, new game modes -, Tropico 4 - New DLC that addressed players complaints of a more "modern" feel - , Skyrim - Kinect support, weapons on horseback, bug quests, AI improvements, new weapon types, new ways of handling XP etc...). It's called market research.

I'm talking about the kind of complaining you see on here. The kind where people threaten 4J for not doing something, or say they're going to boycott them just because we don't have a skin creator.

    Complaining like that, does nothing.

The only real problem I have with the limited size is when some of the newer stuff is added (villages, strongholds, mineshafts, ravines, other biomes, etc.) It is going to make worlds feel really crowded I think. That is also assuming they make it so each world is guaranteed to have each of these things. It would suck to play on a world for a while only to realize your world didn't generate a village or stronghold and the only way to get one would be to start over. Whereas in the PC version you can keep going until you find one.

I think a couple of you may be missing what I'm saying here. I love both versions of the game for different reasons. I'm not threatening the creators or anything, I think both versions of Minecraft are fantastic. I'm simply starting a discussion on map size, and stating how I feel about it. I completely agree that the 360 version should have maps at least two or three times bigger, but I also feel that the PC version is difficult for me to get used to since it's intensely bigger than the 360 version. If I were to make a post about everything I loved about these games, I'd be here all day.

And also, complaining can get people somewhere. Just look at what happened with Mass Effect 3-People went insane about the completely botched ending, and then Bioware released a "Directors Cut" of a damn video game.

That can even be a problem with the current version, where certain resources are limited:

    • Pumpkins
    • Cactus
    • Sugarcane
    • Snow
    • Clay

I've seen maps with very little or none of these resources, depending on the biomes present. Cactus and sugarcane can be farmed as long as you start with at least one, but the other resources might not exist at all on the map, or might be in very limited supply.

Regarding getting lost in the PC version, I believe that you can use F3 to see your current coordinates, which could help lead you back to your spawn point (or the 0,0 point anyway) if you get lost.

A lot of people have asked if they are going to make the world size larger in a later release. When someone asks this, two questions come to mind:

    1. If it was possible to make the world size larger, don't you think they would have done so for the original release?
    2. If they make the world size larger, will they need to change the way the map item works? (on the XBox, all maps you craft are centered at (0,0), not at the crafting point like they are on the PC version).
